Grateful for so many Gifts

During the holiday season our time is occupied with tree trimming, baking, merry making and family gathering, in addition to winding down one semester and getting ready for the next. There is also the buying, giving and receiving of gifts. As fall turns to winter and the days shorten, we have more time to reflect and give thanks--to our family for loving us, to our friends for supporting us, even to our pets for cuddling with us. They have all given us these special gifts, gifts that can't be purchased in a store or on-line. At YSN gift giving happens year round.

We are able to reflect upon the many gifts that we have working and studying at YSN. We have been given the gift of exceptional students--all 293 of them--who come to us from all over the world and from all walks of life. The range of skills and experiences they bring to Yale is remarkable, as is their commitment to improving health care for all people. We are also privileged to work alongside extraordinary faculty colleagues who, through their scholarship and clinical practice, are making a significant difference in the health of communities in and around New Haven, nationally and internationally. Let us not forget the YSN staff whose steadfast support of our students and faculty has helped to further their achievements. The holiday season is also a time to honor our colleagues and friends throughout Yale University and in the community who work with us to advance our mission. I feel blessed to be part of such a caring and supportive community. I hope you do as well.

On behalf of the YSN community, I wish our colleagues, friends and everyone we serve a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy new year.
