825a. Advanced Practice in Early Care and School Health.1.0 credit hours. This seminar provides a forum for discussion and analysis of the advanced practice nursing (APN) role in early care and school settings from infancy through high school. Building on concepts and skills in primary care practice, the seminar explores the role of the APN in health promotion and disease management within early care and educational settings in coordination with other systems of care, such as primary and specialty care, and families. Topics specific to these settings include role development; models of health care delivery and consultation; care of children/adolescents with chronic illnesses and special health care needs; legal issues; and early care and educational system structure. Federal, state, and local legislation as well as policies governing health care in these settings are included. Required in the final year of study for all pediatric nurse practitioner students.
