Program Overview
Yale's innovative Nursing Management, Policy and Leadership (NMPL) program draws upon the collective expertise of faculty from Yale School of Nursing and leaders in health care policy and services. Our curriculum gives nurses individualized opportunities to advance their professional and academic careers in unique and exciting ways. Coursework is done online and is supplemented with monthly on-campus classes. This flexibility allows students to study with nurses with a variety of experiences from many geographic locales.
The program is designed to enhance the ability of nurses to think and act strategically and collaboratively, engage in management, participate in policy decision-making, and lead agencies through health care change, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes. It's a tall order, but a crucial one in today's rapidly changing health care environment.
Nurses enrolled in the program take 40 credits of coursework, including two nursing management, policy and leadership clinical practica. All students work with NMPL faculty to negotiate practica placements that meet their professional goals and satisfy the program's requirements. Study in the program is part-time, completed over three academic years (six semesters), and provides students with flexible schedule options.
