Frequently Asked Questions

Nursing Management, Policy and Leadership (NMPL) Frequently Asked Questions

Is there someone at Yale School of Nursing whom I can contact if I have questions about the NMPL admissions process?

You can call Donna Diers (203-737-2347) or email her (donna.diers@yale.edu). She can guide you through the admissions process, advise you on materials that you need to submit, and answer your questions about the program.

Do I need to take a preparation course for the GRE?

This is a matter of personal preference, but it is generally not necessary. There are a number of preparation books available at your local bookstore that you can use to prepare for the GRE. There are also test-preparation resources available on the GRE website (http://www.gre.org).

May I speak to any currently enrolled students to get their perspectives about the program?

Yes, contact Donna Diers (donna.diers@yale.edu), and she will connect you with the students whose interests most closely match yours.

Why must I be eligible for licensure to practice nursing in Connecticut?

This is only necessary if you choose a site for your NMPL clinical within Connecticut. If your clinical sites are not in Connecticut, you must be licensed in the state where they are located.

What is the schedule for on-campus sessions?

On-campus sessions are generally monthly on a Friday, with a few exceptions, in which case, we try to arrange classes on a consecutive Thursday and Friday. You will have ample advance notice so that you can arrange your schedule accordingly.

My health care organization employer is undertaking the process to obtain national certification. How will the NMPL help both me and my employer in that process?

Nurses and nurse leadership are critical to the delivery of high quality, safe, and efficient health care. The NMPL curriculum prepares you to assume leadership responsibilities and fully and collaboratively participate on your employer’s leadership team. During your study you will learn and practice leadership in health care organizations and the policy making environment.

What type of assistance do you offer people who are not familiar with current computer technology?

We have taken this into account in planning our program and have a team of technology experts who will work with you to ensure that you have the right equipment and learn the necessary skills at your own pace.

How will I get such help if I work evening or night shifts and am not available most days?

This is not a problem. When you contact our staff, let us know when you are available, and we will make every effort to reach you at a time that is convenient to you.
