Alumnae/i Welcomed back to YSN
The YSN Alumnae/i Reunion Weekend 2007 was held on October 11 - 13, welcoming back YSN alumnae/i, faculty and students.
The theme "Educating the Next Generation of Yale Nurses" highlighted new teaching methodologies and innovations incorporated into the curriculum to prepare this generation of YSN students. The weekend began with "speed mentoring," a take-off on "speed dating" where alumnae/i met with students in 5-minute sessions to talk about careers.
Other programs included YSN faculty demonstrating new curriculum from research, genetics, on-line teaching, and a workshop on the use and abuse of power in health care relationships.
Dr. Linda Pellico provided the keynote remarks during her presentation that was held at Yale's British Art Center. She described the challenges and opportunities of teaching the "millenial" generation of students. Drs. Cynthia Connolly and Sandra Talley capped off the weekend with a lively and provocative debate on the new Doctorate of Nursing Practice. In between these sessions, alumnae/i enjoyed reconnecting with their friends and colleagues and meeting the next generation of Yale Nurses.
The Annual Alumnae/i Banquet recognized outgoing members of the Board of YSN's Alumnae/i Association. Outgoing Alumnae/i Association President Bonnie Baloga-Altieri presented the “Distinguished Alumna Award” for 2007 to Carolyn Jaramillo de Montoya. The Alumnae/i Association also gave special recognition to Jane Frelick '44 for her exemplary service to her community and to YSN's mission of “better health care for all people.” Priscilla Ulim '57 was honored for her continuous scholarship and sustainability in professional engagement. Nina Relin Adams '77, Chair of Class Agents and the YSN Annual Fund, recognized Mary Dalbey '57 for 50 years of service as Class Agent for the Class of 1957 and for her unwavering commitment to her class and to YSN.
Several returning alumnae/i commented on their time spent at the reunion weekend:
“The best part of the reunion was meeting with and being able to spend time with former classmates”
“Getting involved again with YSN was my favorite part of reunion.”
“The speakers were fantastic!”
“The program was terrific!”
