Typhon
The Typhon Group Nurse Practitioner Student Tracking System is available online for YSN students to use and document clinical encounters. This system offers students an electronic way to document pertinent information about each of their patient encounters. The system is web based, HIPAA compliant, and allows students to quickly and easily enter patient encounter information such as demographics, clinical information, diagnosis and procedure codes, medications and brief clinical notes. Students may then generate reports (such as the case log spreadsheet which is similar to the pencil/paper logs many of us have used in the past) for their preceptor or YSN faculty. They are also be able to generate reports which include cumulative tallies of the types of patients they've seen over time - essentially creating an individual clinical portfolio that may be of great assistance to them when job-junting. This information will also help us to clearly document the types and numbers of clinical encounters that YSN students have as a group. The Typhon system is NOT meant to replace patient charting.
The expectation is that all Masters students in the specialties ( GEPN) will use the system. The system is student driven - faculty DO NOT need to be trained in Typhon nor have access to the system. Marty Swartz (Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs) and JoAnn Santora (Sr. Administrative Assistant in the Office of Clinical Affairs) are the administrators for the system. They enter important data (such as current preceptors and clinical sites for this year) once they've received that information from the Specialties. In addition, the following faculty have been designated as sub-administrators:
- Jessica Coviello (AANP)
- Angela Crowley (PNP)
- Sheila Molony (AFWG)
- Sarabeth Gottlieb (NMW)
- Sandy Talley (PMH)
Overall feedback from the students who have used the system, and from faculty who have viewed it has been positive. To visit the Typhon web site to obtain further general information, please go to http://www.typhongroup.com/products/npst.htm.
