About

Elaine M. Gustafson MSN, RN, CS, PNP is an Associate Professor of Nursing and the Coordinator of the School-based Health Care Concentration for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialty where she has been since September 1996. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Boston College and a Master of Science from Yale University. In addition to her role in the school-based concentration, she co-teaches courses in physical assessment and health policy.

A Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with expertise in primary and adolescent health care, her research has been primarily been conducted in schools and has focused on chronic conditions such as asthma and prevention of type 2 diabetes in at risk obese teens. Other areas of interest include bullying prevention, crisis intervention in schools and loss and bereavement in children.

She is in her 13th year of clinical practice at the Fair Haven Community Health Center where she is the primary care provider for a large panel of inner city children and adolescents. She also works part time at the Fair Haven Middle School-based health center, a satellite of the Fair Haven Community Health Center.

She is an active member of the Technical Assistance and Training Committee of the National Assembly of School-based Health Care and has done numerous national presentations on the prevention of type 2 diabetes in obese teens and violence prevention.
