Sarah Jaser received her BA in Psychology from Yale University. She went on
to earn a MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Vanderbilt University, and
she completed her clinical internship at the Department of Psychiatry at the
Yale School of Medicine. As a graduate student, she was awarded a
pre-doctoral National Research Service Award from NIH to study communication
and coping in adolescents of depressed and non-depressed mothers. Dr. Jaser
came to the Yale School of Nursing as a Postdoctoral Associate, where she
joined Dean Grey in her studies of Coping Skills Training for youth with
diabetes. Her current work is focused on using observational methods to
study communication and coping in adolescents with type 1 diabetes and their
mothers.
Investigating risk and protective factors in youth with diabetes, with a particular focus on maternal depression. I hope
to develop family-based cognitive-behavioral preventive interventions for
this population focused on improving adolescents' use of adaptive coping,
relieving parents' distress, and promoting the best parenting behaviors.
