About

Lawrence Scahill is Professor of Nursing and Child Psychiatry at Yale School of Nursing and Child Study Center. He is the Director of the Research Unit on Pediatric Psychopharmacology (RUPP) at the Yale Child Study Center. The Yale RUPP is part of a multisite consortium focused on developing and testing new treatments for children with autism and related disorders. In addition to his work in autism, Dr. Scahill is also actively involved in treatment research in Tourette syndrome and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Recent projects include: a multisite study of risperidone in the treatment of children with autism; a multisite study of methylphenidate in children with pervasive developmental disorder and hyperactivity; a study of guanfacine in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children with tic disorders; and parent training in children with Tourette syndrome.

Dr. Scahill received his Master's Degree in Nursing at Yale School of Nursing (YSN) and doctorate in epidemiology at Yale as well. He has been on the faculty of the Child Study Center since 1989 and joined the teaching faculty at YSN in 1997. Dr. Scahill serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Tourette syndrome Association, is on the editorial board of several journals, and was recently inducted into the American Academy of Nursing. He is the author of numerous articles on Tourette syndrome, ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and autism. Recent publications have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, Neurology, Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing. Along with three colleagues at Yale, Dr. Scahill recently published an edited volume entitled, Pediatric Psychopharmacology: Principles and Practice
