Each year at our Bellos Lecture YSN recognizes a deserving student who has made outstanding contributions to the community in the delivery of health care to individuals in New Haven. This year the YSN Community Service Award was presented to Sarah Long. She is a National Health Service Corps Scholar and was a Community Health Service Corps volunteer before coming to YSN. In addition, she is a member of the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved. Currently, she volunteers every Saturday at the local HAVEN Free Clinic, and helped initiate YSN's participation in creating and running this clinic. She is a true team player, doing whatever is needed to be done to help serve this needy population. Drawing on her experience working with similar populations in Americorps, she brings compassion, clinical skill, organizational know-how and genuine passion for the work to the clinic.
In addition to giving generously of her time, she continues to listen and care. Described as compassionate and dedicated, she is also thoughtful and energetic. Through her concerted effort to ease the hardships inflicted on the most vulnerable in New Haven, she has come to know her community, and those she faithfully serves have come to know and respect her. Congratulations Sarah!
