Annie Goodrich Award for Excellence in Teaching: Barbara J. Guthrie
Annie Goodrich was the Yale School of Nursing's founder and first Dean. She was an outstanding nursing leader and educator whose vision set the course for nursing education. We honor her legacy by recognizing a faculty member who carries on the tradition of nursing excellence she set forth.
Each year students nominate faculty members, highlighting their outstanding teaching skills, professional activities and effectiveness as a role model, availability and support to students, and community activities. A student committee reviews and evaluates the nominations, and selects the winner.
This year, we are proud to present the 2009 Annie Goodrich Award for Excellence in Teaching to a faculty member who is committed to her students, her profession, and her community. Her mentorship has influenced the professional development of countless students. But her work goes beyond that. This faculty member has championed health equity at the national and local levels. Through her research, teaching and service, she has been an exemplary academic and professional role model. She is passionate about better health care for all people and is committed to excellence in nursing education and enhancing diversity among nurses.
A respected scholar, advocate for all YSN students, and an extremely committed and valuable contributor to the YSN community, this year's Annie Goodrich Award for Excellence in Teaching goes to Barbara J. Guthrie.
