The Shubert Theatre
New Haven, Connecticut
Yale University School of Nursing celebrated its 83nd commencement on Monday, May 25, 2009, with 95 MSN, 1 DNSc, and 3 Ph.D. graduates.
Margaret Grey, Dean and Annie Goodrich Professor, presided over the ceremony at the historic Shubert Theater in New Haven. The procession included Faculty Marshall Sally Cohen, Ph.D., R.N., Associate Professor of Nursing; Student Marshalls Jessica Helt-Cameron (Master's Candidates) and Maryanne Loetterle Davidson (Doctoral Candidates); and Banner Bearer Karen McKeown.
The commencement address was presented by MaryAnn Stump, Senior Vice-President and Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. Her talk was titled, "Nurses as Innovators - Where We're Going and How We Get There."
A former cardiac critical care nurse, Ms. Stump was the lead architect of Blue Cross Cardiac Center of Excellence Program design, which has won several National Best Practice Awards. Most recently, she was the lead Blue Cross executive in developing Minnesota’s first community based residential treatment facility for eating disorders, the Anna Westin House. Anna’s House, which opened in January 2002, is designed to serve as a “real world” research model to evaluate care that integrates conventional treatment strategies with complementary and alternative medicine therapies.
The commencement also featured the first graduating class of students from the Nursing, Management, Policy and Leadership (NMPL) Program.
A reception for graduates, their families, and guests was held at the Omni New Haven Hotel immediately following the diploma ceremony.
Congratulations to the graduates and their families!
