Sally Cohen elected to fellowship in The New York Academy of Medicine

New Haven, CT — December 20, 2005

The New York Academy of Medicine has elected YSN Associate Professor Sally Cohen to membership. She and the other newly inducted fellows were honored at the Annual Meeting of the Voting Fellows of the Academy that took place on December 6, 2005.

Founded in 1847, The New York Academy of Medicine is dedicated to enhancing the health of the public through research, education, policy analysis and advocacy, with a particular focus on disadvantaged urban populations. Since the Academy's founding, Fellows have played an important role in the vibrancy of the institution. Fellows are a distinguished group of physicians, academicians and other health professionals involved in issues relevant to the health of the public. Today's Fellows are leaders in the fields of law, social work, nursing, education and research as well as health and medicine. Above all, Fellows are generous individuals who give of their time unselfishly to improve the lives of others, especially those who live in the margins of society.

In addition to the honor of being recognized by one's peers, Fellowship in The New York Academy of Medicine provides numerous benefits including access to leaders in medicine, science, public health, health policy and health care delivery. Fellows are also invited to participate in Academy Specialty and Interdisciplinary Sections, which provide continuing medical education opportunities. Importantly, Fellows have expanded access to the holdings in the Academy Library, including the extensive historical collections and the general collections.

At YSN, Professor Cohen directs the Center for Health Policy and Ethics and is also the director of the new and innovative YSN Specialty in Nursing Management, Policy, and Leadership.
