YSN Doctoral student honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award from Florida Atlantic University
New Haven, CT — May 23, 2006
Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, Florida Atlantic University (FAU) presented Kelley Newlin, MSN, DNSc '06 the Distinguished Alumni Award on May 4, 2006. Kelley's past accomplishments that led to the award included the FAU University Scholar Award, College of Nursing Clinical Excellence Award, her work as a master's and doctoral student at Yale, NINR pre-doctoral funding, and multiple publications and presentations. She was also honored for her volunteer history, including Mother Teresa'a Missionaries of Charity, AG Holley State Tuberculosis Hospital, and Saint Rose Elementary School.
Kelley's research explores how coping, social, and mental health factors may link religion and spirituality to diabetes-related health outcomes in black American women with type 2 diabetes. "There is beginning evidence that religion and spirituality may be related to physical health outcomes in this understudied population," Kelley said.
Kelley was awarded her doctoral degree from YSN on May 22, 2006.
