The Program for the Study of Health Care Relationships (HCR) expands its resources by launching the HCR Program Web Site: nursing.yale.edu/hcr/
New Haven, CT — March 30, 2004
The Program for the Study of Health Care Relationships (HCR) is launching a new web site that will advance the program's mission and make new resources available to patients, health care professionals, providers, health policymakers, and others interested in quality of care in Connecticut and around the country.
"Among the new resources we are making available on the web is the HCR Program Citation Database that will benefit researchers by enabling them to access and manage a broad collection of relevant publications,Ó said Sally Cohen, Associate Professor and Director of the HCR Program. The HCR Program Endnote Library consists of approximately 2100 citations compiled by the HCR Program between July 2000 and January 2004, as HCR Program Directors and staff engage in a review of the literature on health care relationships and adherence. Citations from numerous disciplines, including but not limited to medicine, nursing, psychology, sociology, ethics, health policy, and public health, were gathered from various online databases such as MEDLINE, CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health), ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center), PsycINFO, SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index) and others. Additionally, HCR obtained citations from reference lists and reviews of major journals and reports relevant to the program's work that were published between 1940 and 2004. "
The web site also features study findings by 11 Connecticut researchers who were funded through the program during 2001-02 to study various aspects of health care relationships and adherence. "The wide range of disciplines they represent and their research interests demonstrate the diversity and complexity inherent in studying health care relationships,Ó said Dr. Cohen. A number of relevant internet links are also featured on the site.
With the support of the Patrick and Catherine Weldon Donaghue Medical Research Foundation, the Yale School of Nursing (YSN) and the University of Connecticut School of Nursing have, through the establishment of the HCR Program, developed a collaborative, multi-disciplinary, statewide initiative to generate and disseminate knowledge about the relational aspects of health care, with a focus on patient adherence to therapeutic regimes. The HCR Program, has provided a forum for the coordinated study of the dynamics of relationships among patients, caregivers, practitioners, providers, payers and others involved in patient care. The Program's mission is to bring issues surrounding the relational aspects of care to the forefront of the ongoing discourse about health care in Connecticut and the nation. It seeks to enable patients, health care professionals, providers, health policymakers, and other interested individuals to engage in successful partnerships with the shared goal of improving patient outcomes, especially in the context of chronic illness.
