Becky Burpo

Becky holds privileges at Allen Birthing Center in Allen, Texas and a graduate faculty associate appointment at Baylor University in Dallas. She also maintains a consulting practice and is active in state advocacy, serving as the CNM representative to the Coalition of Nurses in Advanced Practice. Since Becky founded Allen Birthing Center, an independent, freestanding birth center, in 2003, it has developed into a 5 CNM practice providing midwifery care in the hospital, birth center, and home. It was also the first non-hospital midwifery-teaching site for Baylor University. Previously, Becky held a joint appointment with clinical staff privileges at Parkland hospital in Dallas and faculty appointments in both the Parkland School of Nurse-Midwifery (PSNM) and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW). She graduated from the PSNM/UTSW midwifery program. Before midwifery, Becky held progressively responsible clinical and leadership positions, including service in the U.S. Army Reserves. She earned her MSN in Administration from the University of Pittsburgh and her BSN from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Becky cites her greatest professional honor as being a Kitty Ernst Awardee. This honor is awarded annually by the American College of Nurse-Midwives to one CNM who has demonstrated excellence in practice, education, or administration within the first ten years of midwifery practice.
