Rafael Acal Jimenez was recently appointed assistant director of nursing for pediatrics at Stony Brook Children’s in Long Island, New York. Within his department, he oversees all pediatric inpatient units as well as a pediatric special procedures unit.
Rafael’s nursing career began overseas, where he graduated from Liverpool John Moores University in Liverpool, England. He arrived at Yale School of Nursing after completing his undergraduate and graduate studies at New York University.
As part of his graduate studies, Rafael became interested in the promotion of communication and collaboration between physicians and nurses. His capstone project during his master’s in administration at New York University provided a tool that facilitated the input of information for pending admission of patients at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Rafael was born and raised in Seville, Spain. He is married with two boys and has made it a priority to convince his sons to support Sevilla FC as their favorite soccer team.
