Giving

YSN Annual Fund

One hundred percent of donations to the YSN Annual Fund go directly toward student financial aid. This support helps increase opportunities for all academically qualified students to receive a YSN education uninhibited by economic factors and thereby attracting a more socially diverse student body.

“… total debt is the critical issue for these new nurse practitioners as they enter the workforce and carry a crushing debt service load of sometimes more than $800 per month.”

- Steve Varley, Associate Dean of Advancement

YSN Giving Societies

The giving societies provide an opportunity for School of Nursing alumnae/i and friends to make annual leadership commitments to Yale School of Nursing as the school prepares the next generation of nurse clinicians, educators, and researchers. Annual gifts at the Henderson Society level ($1,000) or higher are on a plaque displayed in the lobby of YSN. Unless noted otherwise, these gifts will be allocated to the annual fund. Please consider joining one of these giving categories by way of a gift at the following levels:

  • Dean’s Associates: $5,000 or more
  • Goodrich Club: $2,500-$4,999
  • Henderson Society: $1,000-$2,499
  • Taylor Club: $500-$999
  • Wald Club: $250-$499
  • Arnstein Club: $100-$249

“Please join me in making your gift to the Henderson Society to help educate our students.”

- Nina Adams, M.S.N. ’79

Endowment Gifts

Gifts toward endowment are invested by the university, and the income from the gift is directed toward an enduring purpose selected by the donor. Only the income from the principal is expended in accordance with the university’s spending rule, so that the gift continues in perpetuity, helping to safeguard Yale’s tradition of excellence against changing economic climates. Endowment opportunities include scholarships, professorships, and funds to support teaching. Many of our existing endowed funds were established in memory of loved ones, in honor of spouses and children, and to celebrate a legacy. They allow for a lasting link between the donor and the specific purpose selected. Named or anonymous endowed funds can be created with a minimum gift of $50,000.

“I am very grateful to be a YSN student and have access to so many amazing opportunities. I plan to continue taking advantage of all this university has to offer.”

- Megan Del Vecchio ’17 Acute Care Nurse Practitioner student

Matching Gifts

If you work for a company that will match your gift, you can double the impact that your philanthropy can have at YSN! We maintain a searchable database of companies that will match employees’ charitable contributions.

Planned Gifts

With a planned giving strategy, you can put your assets not only to gain financial and tax benefits but also to ensure a better future for tomorrow’s nursing leaders. If one of these strategies seems right for you, we invite you to contact us to learn more.

Bequests allow you to give to Yale without impacting cash flow during your lifetime.  Consider naming Yale as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy, or naming Yale in your will or trust.

Life-income gifts provide income to you (or others) for life or a term of years, with the remainder to be designated to Yale School of Nursing. Examples include charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts.

Gifts of securities, real estate, or from an IRA are often appealing options that provide you tax benefits and allow you to experience the impact of your philanthropy.

IRA Charitable Rollover allows taxpayers age 70 ½ or older to make tax-free charitable gifts directly from their Individual Retirement Accounts to the School of Nursing.
