Holly Powell Kennedy Elected President of ACNM

YSN Professor Holly Powell Kennedy, CNM, PHD, FACNM, FAAN, was elected President of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), the professional association representing Certified Nurse-Midwives and Certified Midwives in the US. Kennedy was inducted on June 15 as part of ACNM's annual meeting in Washington, DC.

An internationally known midwifery researcher and leader, Dr. Kennedy is the first person to be appointed as the Helen Varney Professor of Midwifery at Yale in 2009.

Several YSN alumnae were also honored at the ACNM meeting:

• Sharon Shindler Rising '67 received the Hattie Hemschemeyer Award, ACNM's most prestigious honor.
• Saraswathi Vedam '85 was elected to Fellowship.
• Julie Cristol '88 received a Preceptor Award.
• Whitney Pinger '86 was given a Media Award.

In addition, lecturer Mayri Leslie was awarded by YSN's students for her teaching.
