Karlsen Promoted to Executive Director, Surgical and Critical Care Services at St. Vincent's Medical Center

Brooke Karlsen, a graduate of the Masters of Science in Nursing Degree from YSN, has been appointed the Executive Director, Surgical and Critical Care Services at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Karlsen has been apart of St. Vincent’s since 2004 as the Director of Surgical Services. In this role her accomplishments include the building of St. Vincent’s ten-room operating suite and a 20 bed pre and post anesthesia care unit, coordinating the design, construction and move phases of the Ambulatory Surgery Center renovation, implementing computerized intraoperative record and charging module, developing and starting up the Wound Healing Center, starting up the Robotic Surgical Program and designing and opening the Hybrid OR.

In her new role, she will take on Executive Directorship of the ICU, PCU, and Trauma Services in addition to the responsibilities she currently takes on. These responsibilities include the administration of the 18 Operating and Procedural Rooms, two Post Anesthesia Care Units and Preoperative locations, Central Sterile Supply, as well as the two Post-Surgical Impatient Units and the Wound Healing Center.

Over the years, Karlsen has been the recipient of St. Vincent’s Quality Excellence Award as well as St. Vincent’s Leadership Award for Mentorship. She sits on several committees at St. Vincent’s including the Laser Safety Committee, Ethics Committee, Quality Council, Capital Committee, SCIP Implementation Committee, Wound Center Governance Committee, Surgical Services Leadership Committee, and the Robotic Governance Committee.

Karlsen also presents her work nationally to professional organizations. In fact, she presented at the National OR Manager Conference in Chicago this past fall. She has truly been recognized nationally as a leader in her field.
