Yale University School of Nursing (YSN) Assistant Professor Linda Pellico, MSN, PhD, RN, a 1989 graduate of YSN, received the Association of Yale Alumni (AYA) Leadership Award in recognition of her accomplishments as an ambassador for the University. Pellico was presented the award by Colleen Whelan, who nominated her. The following is the text of the presentation.
I met Linda while she was a member of the AYA Board of Governors. She was the chair of a committee for which I was the staff liaison. It was then that I was introduced to, and impressed by, Linda's unbounded energy and laser focus to achieve any goal at hand. It was clear that people needed to get onboard or get swept up in her wake.
This award is in recognition of Linda's years of service for Yale, for example as a volunteer for the Yale School of Nursing Alumnae/i Association, including serving as its vice president. For her AYA Delegate and Board of Governors service. Even though Linda's term on the AYA Board has ended, she continues to be a willing AYA volunteer lecturer. Alumnae/i and their families may have heard Linda speak at various events, including YSN and Yale College Reunions, at AYA Assemblies, or at various Yale club events.
Beyond the campus boundaries, Linda volunteers bringing her "Have Bones, Will Travel" lecture, a crowd-pleaser for Yale alumni and their children, to schools throughout Connecticut. Linda also serves as part of a travelling medical unit that treats the local homeless population.
On behalf of Yale, Linda is authoring a textbook that will teach Yale Nurses as well as nurses throughout the country; she has established a creative writing and scholarship program for YSN students; and she also manages to find time to mentor Yale College students who have expressed an interest in nursing and medicine.
Linda, for all of the ways you have served for Yale, on behalf of Yale, and for all you will continue to do, thank you and congratulations.
