All-gender restroom now available at YSN

August 1, 2017

A new all-gender restroom is now available at the Yale School of Nursing (YSN) fulfilling a commitment from the Dean, and as had been requested by students, faculty, and staff. The facility is accessible on the first floor of YSN by the lockers and will offer self-contained, single occupancy for anyone’s use. The location will be added to Yale’s All Gender Restroom Map – a resource of the Office of LGBTQ Resources at Yale, which can be accessed here.

YSN’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion exists to help create an environment that is reflective of the communities served by YSN students and faculty, while supporting the overall mission of The School. YSN Dean Ann Kurth, stated, “Our mission is the creation of a pipeline of diverse nurse scholars, practitioners, and educators that will enrich and contribute directly to a diverse YSN and indirectly to the national academic nursing workforce. The addition of an all-gender bathroom is one way that we can embrace this mission.”

The restroom is the first part of an extensive renovation of the first-floor space to begin this fall, in which the large classroom and Simulation Lab will undergo a significant expansion and update.

The Office of LGBTQ Resources at Yale works to create a visible LGBTQ community that includes staff, faculty and students from all of Yale’s schools and from a wide variety of life experiences. They actively network with other Yale offices – including the School of Nursing – that advocate in support of diversity. More information can be found here.
