New Visiting Scholar for the Fall 2017 semester

We are pleased to announce Dr. Freida Chavez as a Visiting Scholar for the Fall 2017 semester. During her time on campus, she will be collaborating with key faculty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, under the leadership of Dr. Judith Kunisch, DNP Program Director. During her period of scholarship at YSN, Dr. Chavez will be conducting an assessment of international DNP enrollment and expansion for the YSN DNP program and explore the relevance of a DNP degree among low and middle income countries.

Freida Chavez, RN, MHSc, DNP, FAAN is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. She is a leader in global health/nursing and brings a unique combination of nursing and health care leadership, policy, and scholarship experience. Passionate about the need to transform nursing education and professional practice with a global perspective, she spearheaded integration of global health in the curriculum, using critical pedagogy to graduate nurses as global citizens at Bloomberg Nursing, University of Toronto. She is a champion of Interprofessional Education (IPE) and has led the design, implementation, and evaluation of IPE (Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Language Pathology) Critical Perspectives in Global Health – for Interprofessional students going to international placements. Dr. Chavez is a Fellow in the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Health Promotion in Hospitals and Health Care.
