Researchers from Yale University spent a week in China leading workshops on international research ethics. Leadership from Yale included YSN Professor Anne Williams, EdD, RNC, FAAN, who directs YSN's Center for International Nursing Scholarship and Education, and Sandra Alfano, PharmD, PASHP, CIP, Chair of Yale School of Medicine's Institutional Review Board. They were joined by Hongping Tian, PhD, Director of Health Programs at Yale-China Association.
The sessions were held in two location in collaboration with local institutions. The workshop in Beijing included the China Centers for Disease Control. The Xiangya School of Medicine collaborated on the workshop in Changsha.
The workshops were aimed at strengthening a mutual understanding of the social and cultural aspects of the research environment. They also developed strategies for shared communication and responsibilities in reviewing international human subjects research.
