DNP faculty are experienced in a range of nurse leadership roles from the clinical practice setting to the c-suite. 

Meet the Director

Joan Kearney, PhD, APRN

Associate Professor of Nursing
Director, Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program

Dr. Kearney is an Associate Professor at YSN and the Yale Child Study Center, having previously served on the faculty of the Columbia University School of Nursing. In addition to her academic career, she has held administrative and executive positions in Nursing and Psychiatry in New York and Connecticut, as well as membership and consultative roles to advisory boards and professional panels across practice, organizational, and policy domains. Dr. Kearney belongs to various organizations including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), the American Nurses Association, and the American Psychological Association, to name a few. She is a Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, the highest level of achievement and leadership in the fields of urban health care and research. Her clinical background and specialty licensure is in psychiatry and her doctoral research training was in developmental psychology and human development She has conducted studies across the trauma spectrum with relevance for clinical practice, systems level initiatives and policy change. 


Mary Ann Camilleri JD, BSN, RN, FACHE

Mary Ann Camilleri is a board-certified healthcare executive and attorney with proven expertise in healthcare executive management and law including strategy, operations, organizational redesign, financial performance, governance, legal/regulatory compliance, quality/patient safety and innovative service delivery models. She has an impressive body of work to her credit, revealing the breadth and depth of healthcare executive leadership and consulting experience and is a successful leader of large-scale healthcare initiatives from definition through implementation. She has served in such leadership roles as hospital system Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Senior Vice President, Administration and Senior Vice President/Chief Legal Officer.  

A governing board member of private, community, professional association and healthcare boards, Ms. Camilleri brings extensive experience in organizational governance. As a hospital system Chief Legal Officer, she managed the legal affairs of all entities advising the Boards of Directors on matters involving litigation, risk management, regulatory compliance, employment practices, contractual relationships, corporate governance and business. 

Ms. Camilleri’s work includes publishing on ethical and legal issues innursing and healthcare leadership. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the American Association of Nurse Attorneys, and Sigma Theta Tau. Currently, Ms. Camilleri is President and Founder of an executive consulting firm specializing with healthcare organizations and nonprofits.
