The Yale School of Nursing brought its community together for a series of gatherings designed to recognize, uplift, and celebrate the students, staff, and faculty who embody the power of the nursing profession every day.
The celebration began with simple moments of connection in the Hub—a breakfast social that invited conversation and community, followed by a visit from Handsome Dan that added a dose of Yale spirit. Faculty were also honored at a Faculty Appreciation Awards and Luncheon, recognizing leadership in teaching, mentorship, clinical practice, and scholarship.
Additional events throughout the week created space for both reflection and joy. A cold brew coffee bar offered an opportunity to pause and reconnect, while Faculty Lightning Talks welcomed attendees from across the school to hear brief reflections and insights from colleagues. An ice cream truck on campus provided a lighthearted way for students, staff, and faculty to gather between classes and responsibilities.
Two featured sessions, The Art of Caring with Susan Prescott, offered dedicated space for reflection—one designed for students and another for staff and faculty. These conversations invited participants to consider how the act of caring shapes their work, learning, and relationships within the YSN community.
Throughout the celebration, the focus remained on honoring both students and faculty, recognizing that the strength of nursing lies not only in clinical expertise, but in compassion, resilience, and shared commitment to one another.
In a message to the community, Dean Azita Emami reflected on the meaning of Nurses Week:
“Nurses are at the heart of healthcare. Your expertise, compassion, resilience, and leadership shape not only individual patient experiences but the health of entire systems and communities… We honor your contributions, we see the challenges you navigate, and we remain committed to supporting your growth, wellbeing, and impact.”
These words echoed through each event and interaction. Whether gathered over breakfast, learning together, celebrating faculty achievements, or simply sharing a moment of joy, the YSN community came together to recognize the profound impact of nurses—and the people preparing to become them.
The celebration served as both recognition and reminder: that investing in nurses, supporting one another, and creating space for connection are essential to sustaining the profession’s strength and future.
