Mary-Vesta Marston-Scott ‘51

90 Outstanding Yale Nurses Recipient

Class of 1951

After graduating from YSN, Mary-Vesta Marston-Scott, PhD, FAAN, completed the Master of Public Health program at Harvard and, shortly after, joined the Commissioned Corps (Reserve) of the U.S. Public Health Service.

Devoted to nursing, Dr. Marston-Scott was a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University, Boston University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago.The author of a review forNursing Research, Dr. Marston-Scott developed the first major in health behavior in the country for the Doctor of Nursing Science program.

Her allegiance to nursing has allowed her to garner various accolades, such as membership in Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Theta Tau, and Psi Chi honor societies and the 1995 YSN Distinguished Alumna Award.
