Oversight of Research Involving Human Subjects

Oversight of Research Involving Human Subjects
Yale University maintains an integrated human research protection program (HRPP) under the oversight of the Associate Vice President for Research Administration. The HRPP is responsible for ensuring that faculty, students, and staff adhere to the highest ethical standards in the protection of human research participants. All research involving human subjects must be reviewed and approved by one of the Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) at Yale. The Human Investigation Committee (HIC) reviews all biomedical research. The Human Subject Committee (HSC) reviews all social, behavioral and educational research.

For further information on submitting a protocol for review, visit the HRPP website. This website is updated regularly so please check it before completing any forms to be sure that you are using the most current version.

All new applications require sign-off by the YSN Associate Dean for Scholarly Affairs.

Please note: YSN is NOT set up for electronic submissions of protocols through the COEUS eIRB system. Submissions to the HIC will continue to be in paper format until further notice.
