Community Service Award Winner - 2009

New Haven, CT - Everol Ennis ‘09, a primary care nursing student, was recently presented with the 2008 Yale University School of Nursing (YSN) Community Service Award for his out-standing commitment to helping those in need.
Margaret Grey, Dean of YSN and Annie Goodrich Professor, presented the Community Service Award as part of the 2008 Sybil Palmer Bellos Lecture.
At the awards ceremony, Dean Grey read the official Community Service Award Citation: “From his early days, even before becoming a student at the Yale University School of Nursing, he has set about taking care of his community, and the people in it. A volunteer Commissioner for the City of New Haven Commission on Aging, he creates and implements initiatives that impact older adults.”
“He participates in providing health care to homeless and to low income residents of New Haven who rely on soup kitchens for meals. He has been the principal coordinator of YSN’s Annual Healthy Neighbor Day that provides health screenings and outreach between the School and the community. He also has been the YSN bid coordinator for the Homeless and Hunger Auction to raise funds for local organizations that support New Haven’s homeless population. He has been involved in ‘Have Bones Will Travel.’ As coordinator, Executive Committee Member and Education Co-Chair for the NAACP Health Expo, he actively provides outreach to local students to increase interest in the sciences and health care. He works with Yale-New Haven Hospital in the Elder Horizons Program working to reduce the risk of dementia.”
