Faculty Development and Diversity

“The Faculty Development & Diversity team in the Office of the Provost - led by Richard Gutierrez Bribiescas, Deputy Provost for Faculty Development & Diversity, and Karen Lee Anderson, Associate Provost for Academic Resources & Faculty Development - is responsible for initiatives to enhance faculty excellence and diversity  throughout all of Yale’s schools, and is the central faculty affairs resource, supporting  faculty-related strategic planning, policy development, data analysis, programs and events, and leadership development across Yale.”

Office of LGBTQ Resources

From the website:  Whether you’re new to Yale or you’ve been here a while, you can find a network of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students, faculty, and staff. The Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Resources can help you connect to others in the community and learn about Yale’s LGBTQ social, cultural and academic programs and events.

Resource Office on Disabilities

Facilitates and ensures a University that is accessible to and inclusive of all students with disabilities.  This office also partners with the Provost Advisory Committee on Resources for Students and Employees with Disabilities, which comprises faculty, students and administrative staff appointed annually by the Provost. This university-wide committee helps to assess the needs of this population and recommend policies, processes, and resources for improving the physical and functional aspects of accessibility for the campus community.  

Religious Diversity at Yale

Facilitates interfaith dialogue, engagement and service, to create room on campus for richly diverse religious and spiritual traditions.

OISS/International Center for Yale Students and Scholars

Provides information, support, and a welcoming point of contact for international students, scholars, and their families coming to New Haven and the Yale campus.

Minority Student Coordinators

Focus on minority student education and recruitment across the graduate and professional schools.  The minority student coordinator at YSN is Heather Reynolds.

The Women Faculty Forum

Fosters gender equity, promotes scholarship on gender, and encourages collegiality and networking.

Yale Nurses Publish Letter to Police in Huffington Post

Dean Ann Kurth, Dr. Mark Lazenby, Dr. Jacquelyn Taylor, and alumnus Everol Ennis recently teamed up to write an op-ed in the Huffington Post, “The Power to Service, The Imperative to Protect:  A Letter to Police from Nurses.”  Read the full op-ed here.

A diversity commentary in Nursing Outlook:  Diversity: A key aspect of 21st century faculty roles

Dr. Jacquelyn Taylor, Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, in partnership with Dr. Gordon Gillespie at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing, has published a commentary on diversity among nursing faculty in Nursing Outlook, the official journal of the American Academy of Nursing and the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science.

Reporting of Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Misconduct, and Other Issues

Student Discrimination and Harassment Reporting & Response

A new website for Yale students that collects and organizes the university’s policies, procedures, and resources for reporting and resolving incidents of discrimination or harassment.  For an overview of formal complaint options, please view this table.

Office for Equal Opportunity Programs

Oversees the University’s affirmative action programs and monitors compliance with policies and laws which ensure equal opportunity for students, employees, and applicants for employment or admission.  Please see complaint procedures here.

The Director of the Office for Equal Opportunity Programs is the Title IX Coordinator for Faculty and Staff, who works closely with all Title IX Coordinators across campus to address gender equity and gender discrimination issues.  The Director is also the University’s Section 504 Coordinator (Americans with Disabilities Act compliance) and Age Discrimination Act Coordinator.

Any student, employee, or applicant for programs or employment at Yale who is concerned about affirmative action, equal opportunity, racial harassment, or fairness in admission or employment at Yale, either in general or with respect to his or her own situation, is encouraged to contact the Office for Equal Opportunity Programs.

Title IX Coordinators

Provide resources to students, faculty, and staff to address matters related to discrimination on the basis of sex, which includes sexual misconduct.

The Title IX Coordinator for YSN is Lois Sadler and the University Title IX Coordinator is Stephanie Spangler.

The Sexual Harassment and Assault Response & Education Center (SHARE) provides information, advocacy, and support services to those experiencing sexual violence, sexual harassment, stalking, or intimate partner violence.

Office of the Ombudsperson

A neutral, safe, and confidential place where any matter in the School of Medicine community may be discussed with the Ombudsperson, Merle Waxman, confidential line:  203-737-4100.
