Visual Celebration at University-Wide Ceremony at the moment of degree conferral

For many years YSN has had a beautiful visual celebration when the University President confers the degrees. As you have heard, this year it has been requested that we ensure that we not use any devices that make any “popping noises” or silly string.
Some of your classmates have brought forward a few ideas and I am delighted to share that the Office of Student Life will be purchasing them to hand out to the graduates.  We will have plenty for everyone.  There will be bubbles, Yale blue pom poms and noiseless confetti wands with biodegradable confetti.  We will be passing them out in the morning when students get onto the bus to go downtown.

Please note:

  • Graduates and guests are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles. There will be several water filling stations surrounding Old Campus.
  • Animals are prohibited on Old Campus during the ceremony. Service animals will be allowed. If a guest is bringing a service animal, please have them show the appropriate documentation for the animal.
  • No mylar balloons or selfie sticks are allowed on Old Campus

Photography

At the celebratory party we will have a photo booth company with all kinds of fun options to print and text to yourself.

Occasionally a student will choose to hire a photographer on their own.  If you are planning to do that, you will need to get them media credentials by e-mailing ysn.communication@yale.edu with their information.

The photographer should register as Media for Commencement. Here are additional guidelines issued by Yale’s Office of Public Affairs & Communications (OPAC):
  • Only those with credentials issued by OPAC will be allowed access to Old Campus to cover the Commencement and Class Day ceremonies.
  • All media photographers, reporters, and television camera crews must cover Class Day and Commencement from the news media platform, where video and audio feeds will be available.
  • Photography and videography are not allowed in front of or on the Commencement stage on Old Campus. OPAC staff will be available to escort photographers and videographers during the events.
  • The Office of Public Affairs & Communications will email you with information on where to pick up credentials.
