Allison Underwood, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC

About

Allison is a full-time Lecturer in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty. She has also worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and clinical preceptor at the Cornell Scott Hill Health Center, a large FQHC in New Haven, since 2015.  She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Connecticut College, master’s degree in nursing from Yale University School of Nursing and most recently earned her clinical doctorate in nursing from the University of Connecticut in 2023. 

Allison has been in the mental health field for over 15 years with a focus on serving vulnerable populations and communities. Her clinical practice focuses on adults with severe mental illness and addiction in the outpatient setting. She is passionate about preparing future PMHNPs to become leaders in providing quality care for these complex populations. She is involved with the CT APRN Society and has held multiple leadership positions on the American Psychiatric Nurses Association’s New England board. 

Allison’s research interests focus on using health information technology, measurement-based care, and quality improvement initiatives to improve patient and population outcomes in mental health..
