Jennifer Ruby, FNP-C, MSN
Jennifer Ruby, FNP-C, MSN worked her way through the ranks in her nursing career. At the recommendation of her mother, she pursued a position as a “sitter” at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in 2001. She then advanced to a Patient Care Assistant and then to a Student Nurse Technician. She graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2009 with her BSN and began working on a busy medical telemetry and stroke floor at The Hospital of Saint Raphael. While working full time as an RN, she began her studies at Sacred Heart University and graduated in 2013 with a MSN-FNP degree.
Jennifer’s FNP career began in 2013 when she accepted a role with Yale New Haven Hospital as a nurse practitioner working with the Advanced Endoscopy Team. She specialized in diseases of the pancreas and biliary system. During this time she became aware of the complexity of the medical system. She was drawn to help families navigate this complex system while dealing with newly diagnosed cancers. She worked to establish a weekly multidisciplinary pancreas conference and helped coordinate yearly workshops with world renowned gastroenterologists performing live ERCP/EUS cases. She spoke at the Yale Pancreatic Symposium in 2018 about Pain and Nutrition management of complex pancreatic disease.
Jennifer’s professional journey has also taken her to pulmonary critical care with specialty in sleep medicine and currently to long term care and geriatric medicine. She employs a compassionate care model in her practice and has a passion for mental health and palliative care. She is dedicated to ensuring that her patients and their families find physical and spiritual comfort at end of life.
Jennifer enjoys teaching and serving as a preceptor for FNP students. She hopes to make her students feel comfortable and not afraid to ask questions so knowledge is maximized. She works to instill a desire in her students to use compassion throughout their careers. Small, everyday acts of kindness can leave a lasting impact. Do ordinary things with extraordinary love!
