Josh Waddell, DNP, MA, PMHNP-BC

About

Josh Waddell is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner based out of Santa Rosa Beach, FL. At Yale he currently focuses on course creation and psychopharmacology for the MSN program. Clinically he currently works in a community mental health clinic in rural Northwest Florida providing psychiatric evaluations and medication management services to clients across the life span. Dr. Waddell is also the creator of a medication for opioid use disorder program and correctional mental health team in his community. As a PMHNP he practices out of a holistic, integrative, person-centered approach with a focus on understanding root-cause illness. Prior to his role as a PMHNP he worked as a mental health therapist in rural east Tennessee. As a therapist he served clients across the life span focusing on the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reality Therapy. He has experience throughout the field of mental health including in-home case management, community mental health, private practice, program management, inpatient and outpatient services.

Academics

Dr. Waddell received his Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Science in Nursing (psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner) from Vanderbilt University. Prior to his career in nursing, he received a Bachelor of Science (concentration psychology) and Master of Arts (concentration mental health counseling) from Tennessee Tech University.

Interest/Focus

Dr. Waddell primarily focuses on understanding root causes for mental health issues and using integrative, holistic interventions.  He is interested in understanding the origins of mental illness across cultures and how to improve the use of holistic interventions such as food, supplementation, movement, environment, and nutraceuticals. He is the creator and host of the podcast Mental Maps which focuses on understanding the origins of mental health issues and interventions to maximize mental well-being.
