Mary K. Peterson, DNP, APRN, PPCNP-BC
About
Mary K. Peterson, DNP, APRN, PPCNP-BC is a Senior Lecturer in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialty program. She joined the faculty at YSN in 2024. She has over 8 years of teaching experience in both graduate and undergraduate nursing programs. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salve Regina College, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the Yale University. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Leadership from Quinnipiac University in May 2016.
Mary is an active member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP). She is the current treasurer of the Connecticut chapter of NAPNAP as well as the past president. Additionally, she is involved with multiple other professional organizations including the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty, and Sigma Theta Tau (Tau Rho Chapter).
Clinical Practice/Research Interests
Mary is passionate about the primary care of children and their families. She has years of clinical experience as a pediatric primary care provider in a variety of health care settings. She draws upon these experiences to educate future health care providers.
Mary’s research interests include life-threatening food allergies in children. Her DNP project focused on Epi-pen training in pediatric primary care settings.
Awards
She received the 2022 Presidential Commendation from the National Association of Nurse Practitioners for dedicated leadership and service that have contributed to the success of our community of experts in pediatrics and advocates for children.
