About

Dr. Tina Walde is a Senior Lecturer in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specialty and Co-Director of the PMH Program. She has an extensive background in child and adolescent psychiatry and is a dually certified lifespan psychiatric nurse practitioner and child and adolescent psychiatric clinical nurse specialist.

Dr. Walde has been teaching for nearly a decade, starting her academic career at Oregon Health Sciences University prior to Yale School of Nursing. She is passionate about workforce development and training the next generation of PMHNPs to provide exceptional community care. Her academic interests lie in nurse practitioner competency and curriculum development as well as integrating improvement science into clinical practice. She helps students address health care disparities in a biopsychosocial, spiritual, and structural competency framework. She is also active in statewide initiatives to eliminate regulatory and legislative barriers to the full scope of practice and access to nurse practitioner care.

As a clinician, Dr. Walde is the owner of a nurse practitioner-owned practice, The Wellness Place, PLLC, in Madison, CT, which she established in 2020. Dr. Walde focuses on caring for children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of mental health and substance use issues and provides LGBTQIA+ affirming care. She has over 15 years of experience serving children, adults, and families in Oregon, Washington, and Connecticut in community, substance use, and integrated care settings working with migrant farmworkers, refugees, and youth with dual diagnoses. She is passionate about developing sustainable health care models that improve access to culturally sensitive and equitable care.

Tina holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Oregon Health Sciences University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University School of Nursing, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in exercise science from The George Washington University. She is a first-generation college student who got started on her health care journey in the Elizabeth J. Somers Women in Science Leadership Program at GWU.

When not working, she enjoys reading mysteries, cooking, exploring the coast, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.
