Lucinda Canty
Dr. Lucinda Canty is a certified nurse-midwife, Associate Professor of Nursing, and Director of Seedsworks Health Equity in Nursing Program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She received her BSN from Columbia University, her MSN from Yale University (‘94 nurse-midwifery), and her Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut. She is an artist, poet, and historian. Her research interests include the prevention of maternal mortality and severe maternal morbidity, reducing racial and ethnic health disparities in reproductive health, and eliminating racism in nursing and midwifery. Her scholarship has led to the development of Lucinda’s House, a Black Maternal Health Collective, to promote maternal health equity through community collaboration and programs that provide support and education. She currently hosts web discussions, An Overdue Reckoning on Racism in Nursing. In 2022, she was inducted into the American College of Nurse-Midwives as a Fellow. In October, she will be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing.
