Family Nurse Practitioner
Class of 2020

This past year has been very busy and exciting for me as I have taken advantage of many opportunities at Yale to pursue my passions in family nursing, health equity, and wellness. After passing the NCLEX, I started a research position in Yale New Haven Hospital’s Emergency Department, facilitating treatment plans for patients who suffered opioid overdoses. In addition to my roles as biomed teaching assistant, academic and curriculum chair on the Student Government Organization, and member of the Graduate and Professional Student Senate, I train GEPN students in bystander intervention and facilitate clinical processing groups for students.

I also collaborated with my nursing and medical student peers to create the next edition of the U.S. Health Justice Course, a course that prepares future health care providers to address health inequities that manifest as a result of social marginalization and structural inequalities.

As the health and wellness initiative manager at the Afro-American Cultural Center, I create programing geared toward students starting the conversation about health and organize the Black Women’s Retreat at a yoga and wellness center. During the retreat, we restore, recharge, and learn ways to cope with stress and become more connected with ourselves.

These experiences have fueled my passion for healthy equity and wellness that I will bring to my work as a family nurse practitioner. This summer I am off to Maine to work as a nurse at an all-girls overnight camp and look forward to coming back in the fall to wrap up my final year at YSN.

Thank you so much for your support!
