Black History Month Talk featuring Ayana Elliot, DNP, APRN, FNP-C
Dr. Ayana Elliott is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners as a family nurse practitioner with clinical expertise in HIV and transgender health as well as family medicine and medical oncology. She is a member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine and currently serves as Director of Clinical Operations at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in South Pasadena, California.
Dr. Elliott’s research and clinical interest focus on health promotion, HIV prevention and treatment, and primary care for gender and sexual minorities of color. Over the last decade, her major projects have included serving in consulting and co-investigator roles in behavioral health studies and clinical research protocols addressing HIV among transgender women of color and other gender and sexual minorities. In addition to her research involvement, she has also developed curricula to train health care providers on providing culturally-relevant care to transgender populations and adapted a CDC high-impact HIV/AIDS prevention intervention into an HIV bio-behavioral intervention for HIV-at-risk and HIV-positive transgender girls and women of color. Dr. Elliott has served as faculty for multiple HIV-related continuing education courses via live trainings, webinars, recorded videos, and conference presentations. She has made substantive contributions to a number of co-authored peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, Dr. Elliott was invited to be a panelist at the White House briefing on Transwomen of Color, where she offered recommendations on how the federal government and community partners should respond to violence, and the systemic barriers and discrimination transgender women face daily. As an entrepreneur and a self-made brand, she serves as the principal and lead health consultant for The Elliott Group, LLC.
