Leah Chasm-Velasco is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and faculty lecturer at Yale University School of Nursing. She brings over a decade of clinical experience in critical care and advanced cardiac care, with specialized expertise in the management of high-acuity cardiovascular populations, including mechanical circulatory support (IABP, Impella, ECMO), LVAD, TAVR, and heart transplant patients. Mrs. Chasm-Velasco currently practices in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Hartford Hospital.

Her academic interests include advanced practice provider education, interprofessional simulation, and the integration of focused cardiac ultrasound into clinical training. She has contributed to curriculum development at both Yale University and the UTHealth Houston Cizik School of Nursing and has served as a clinical preceptor and course lecturer across multiple levels of nursing education. Mrs. Chasm-Velasco is actively involved in student engagement and professional development initiatives, both within Yale and across broader clinical education networks.

She completed her MSN in Adult/Gerontology Acute Care at Yale University and a post-graduate cardiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Arizona. Her scholarship includes national presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and contributions to continuing education programs for advanced practice providers. Through her dual roles in academia and clinical practice, Mrs. Chasm-Velasco is committed to preparing the next generation of nurse practitioners with a strong foundation in evidence-based, patient-centered acute care.
