At the Yale School of Nursing, philanthropy and alumni engagement continue to play a vital role in advancing nursing education, research, and practice. Through the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs, recent activities reflect sustained investment in the people, programs, and ideas that strengthen the profession and expand the impact of Yale Nurses.
On April 30, the YSN Dean’s Leadership Council met to advise the Dean and Deputy Dean on key priorities for the school. The session included remarks from President Emeritus Peter Salovey, who spoke about the importance of the ongoing Yale Challenge fundraising effort, which concludes on June 30. With $9.8 million still to be raised, the campaign represents an important opportunity to strengthen the school’s financial foundation and support the continued excellence and innovation of nursing and midwifery education.
Recent philanthropic support further underscores this commitment to advancing nursing scholarship and access. YSN has received funding to support a two-year postdoctoral appointment focused on the work of the Center for Aging Well, advancing research and innovation in healthy aging across the lifespan. In addition, an anonymous donor has pledged $500,000 over five years to support scholarships through the Next Century Fund. This gift will be matched through the Yale Challenge, resulting in a total impact of $1 million directed to the YSN endowment and expanding access to nursing education for future generations of students.
Alumni engagement also continues to play a central role in advancing the school’s mission. Later this month, Dr. Kivipelto, Deputy Dean Sadak, and Dr. Swan will represent YSN at Yale Reunions on May 23 and May 30, where they will engage alumni in conversations about aging well across the lifespan and highlight the school’s ongoing leadership in this area of scholarship and practice.
Together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment to strengthening the future of nursing. By investing in education, research, and scholarship, the YSN community is expanding opportunities for nurses to lead, innovate, and improve health outcomes across populations and generations.
The Office of Development and Alumni Affairs is grateful for the generosity and engagement of the Yale Nursing community and proud to support the continued growth and impact of Yale Nurses worldwide.
