YSN will celebrate its 94th Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 18, 2020.

9:30 am – YSN students must line up at Cross Campus (quad in front of Sterling Memorial Library)
10:00 am – University Commencement, Old Campus (344 College Street, New Haven, CT)
12:30 pm – YSN Commencement Ceremony, Shubert Theatre (247 College Street, New Haven, CT)*
2:00 pm – YSN Commencement Reception, Grand Ballroom, Omni New Haven Hotel (115 Temple Street, New Haven, CT)
* PhD Candidates will attend the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Commencement Ceremony at 12:15 pm in Woolsey Hall (500 College Street, New Haven, CT)
Cap & Gown
Students who wish to march or participate in any ceremony must wear academic robes. Information about ordering your cap, hood and gown is available on the university commencement website. All caps and gown orders must be placed by April 1 to avoid any late fees.
Tickets are not required for the University Commencement on Old Campus. Tickets are required for the YSN ceremony at the Shubert Theatre and the reception at the Omni New Haven Hotel. There are separate tickets for the both the ceremony at the Shubert Theatre and the reception at the Omni Hotel. Graduates in academic garb do not need a ticket to the Shubert; tickets to the Omni, however, are neccesary for graduating students. Guests must be prepared to present their tickets at both venues.
Tickets to the YSN Ceremony at the Shubert Theatre are free, and there is no limit on the number of tickets a graduate can request. Tickets will be made available during the spring term. Communication will be sent from the Office of Student Affairs, with specific details to graduates about obtaining tickets, in the spring term. Participating graduates in academic garb do not need a ticket. Click here to order your ticekts!
Tickets to the reception at the Omni are $10 each (children 5 years old and under are free). There is no limit to the number of tickets a graduate can purchase for themselves and their guests.
Graduates will gather immediately following the recessional at the end of the YSN Ceremony at the Shubert for a class picture. Someone will directly you to the appropriate area. We ask that graduates first line up for the class picture before joining their family and friends after the ceremony to make sure everyone is in the photo. An e-mail with information about how to obtain your photo will be sent to your Yale e-mail address after commencement.
Parking & Shuttles
Parking is a challenge on the weekend of commencement but there are plenty of Yale and public parking lots throughout the city. Please use the Yale parking website or the Park New Haven website to find parking lots near the commencement activities.
The Yale shuttles will be running on the Monday of commencement on their regular schedules: including the Purple line from West Campus. For more information, please visit the University’s commencement website page regarding transportation and parking.
The University provides special accommodations for our guests with disabilities. Please call the Resource Office on Disabilities at 203-432-2324 for accommodations at the University Ceremony on Old Campus. For wheelchair reservations, please visit the commencement website. Wheelchair quantities are limited. Early reservations are encouraged.
For seating accommodations at the Shubert Theatre and Omni Hotel, please contact the Office of Student Affairs in advance.
Name on Your Diploma
You have the opportunity to check the name that will be printed on your diploma, and to request a change if necessary. To do this, log onto www.yale.edu/sis and click “commencement”. Once there, click “diploma name” and print the form to request the new name. The completed form is due by April 1, 2020. Keep in mind that changes cannot be made after April 1st.
If you are not attending the YSN Ceremony, please contact Melanie Pagan in the Office of Student Affairs. Additionally, you must submit a “diploma address” so that the university knows where to mail your diploma by logging onto www.yale.edu/sis, clicking on “commencement” and adding address under “diploma address”. Questions about mailing of diplomas can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
