We are excited to have you all join us in August for Orientation. Alongside the OSA staff, we have a group of Orientation Leaders dedicated to helping you transition to YSN. Check them out below! They are all part of the YSN New Student Facebook page and will be hosting Facebook Live events starting the last week of June.

Favorite Thing About YSN: My favorite thing at YSN is how talented and motivated the student are. 
Involvement: SGO, USHJ collab, West Campus Farm, Transition Clinic 
Fun Fact:
My middle school used to take us to China Town in NYC to compete in a rowing competition.

Megan Aitro

Favorite Thing About YSN: The close-knit and unique community that we have at YSN
Fun Fact: I lived in Venice, Italy for a month and pursued my love of art by taking a drawing class

Fun Fact: I got my first tattoo in Cambodia!

Abigail Braden

Favorite Thing About YSN: I really love the awesome community of students here! There are so many smart and passionate people here, from such varied and interesting backgrounds

Fun Fact: Without ever planning to, my sister and I started nursing school the same week!

Samantha Copeland

Specialty: Psych-Mental Health
Hometown: Nashua, NH. Lived in Boston before YSN
Favorite Thing About YSN: The way that we grow and how quickly it happens! I love our professors and so appreciate their support through this crazy process.
Fun Fact: I went on 3 road trips and visited 9 national parks last year!

Sara Culver

Specialty: Midwifery/WHNP

Favorite Thing About YSN: My fellow classmates! And Melanie Pagan. 
Involvement: SGO representative; Nursing Students for Reproductive Justice; HAVEN volunteer
Fun Fact: The first time I applied to YSN, I didn’t get in! I’ve lived in New Haven for the past 6 years and I LOVE it! When I was 8, I won a trophy for my chocolate chip cookies at my town fair! I once sang in an all girls choir that got to sing back up to Diana Ross! I have the cutest dog in the world. I love peanut butter. 

Lakeisha Dennis

Favorite Thing About YSN: My fellow students.  Their support  and fellowship has been immeasurable

Ashley Elusma

Specialty: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Hometown: West Haven, CT
Favorite Thing About YSN: The Sim Lab and the amount of space we have here to study! I will try and find a different place to study every week.
Involvement: Involved in my home church and volunteer when possible
Fun Fact: I swam in both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans

Kristina Flemming

Hometown: Queens, New York (but I also call Orlando my home!)
Favorite Thing About YSN: There’s always someone to study with regardless of the time of day…or night.
Fun Fact: I moved to New Haven with my maltipoo pup and I love how dog friendly the city is

Jennifer Gonzalez-Santos

Favorite Thing About YSN: Being able to put studying aside and go outside for a walk along the trail and stream
Involvement: SGO, Latinx Graduate Network
Fun Fact: Spanish is my first language!

Polly Huynh

Favorite Thing About YSN: Meeting and learning from passionate fellow students interested in their niches in healthcare!
Involvement: First Generation Student, Asian American Center, Tandem Language Café
Fun Fact: I’m obsessed with all things small and furry aka hamsters.

Jill Langan

Specialty: Midwifery/WHNP
Hometown: Phoenix, AZ
Favorite Thing About YSN: My cohort. I have the most incredible peers and I learn a lot from them. The community we have built within our class is unparalleled and hope to help foster it for other classes too.
Involvement: Orientation, GEPN faculty chair, organizing GEPN town hall community meetings, and WHNP/CNM faculty chair
Fun Fact: I am very crafty and I looove dogs 

Moya Meckel

Specialty: Acute Care, Global Health Concentration
Hometown: Carmel Valley, California
Favorite Thing About YSN: The incredible, interesting, inspiring people! Faculty, staff AND students. And the first days of class each term, when I get a glimpse of what my semester is going to look like.
Involvement: SGO President, CWA recipient, fervent YSN recruiter (you’re going to love it here!!)
Fun Fact: I have a 5 year old and a 7 year old who keep me busy non-stop!! 

Lisa Morris

Specialty: Women’s Health
Hometown: Raleigh, NC, but I was living in Oakland, CA before I came to YSN
Favorite Thing About YSN: The incredible range of backgrounds, interests, and passions of my classmates. I think that this program draws some of the most amazing people around the country who have lived incredible lives before beginning their journey here.
Involvement: Yale Doula Project

I play the saxophone.

Jeff Shaw

Specialty: Acute Care
Hometown: Stratford, CT
Favorite Thing About YSN: Awesome peers who support each other with everything from study guides to indulging in happy hour
Involvement: Orientation Chair, Acute Care Group Representative
Fun Fact: I met Neil Armstrong, Bill Nye the Science Guy, and Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger all while working at a Starbucks during undergrad.

Sarah Spiller

Specialty: FNP
Hometown: Portland, OR
Favorite Thing About YSN: The wonderful friends I’ve made here!
Involvement: SGO executive committee, Graduate and Professional Student Senate representative
Fun Fact: Once when I was 5, I got over 30 bee stings at once! Fortunately we found out that day that I am not allergic to bees :)

Symone Stephens

Favorite Thing About YSN: The 24 hour gym at West Campus - great for self-care and de-stressing.
Involvement: HAVEN, the minority student nurses group, and attend US health justice collaborative
Fun Fact: I lived in Turkey for three years

Elise Valentini

Favorite Thing About YSN: Being constantly inspired by my peers (and free bagels on Mondays)
Involvement: Yale Babysitting
Fun Fact: I have an unhealthy addiction to HGTV

Emily Wunsch

Specialty: Acute Care
Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
Favorite Thing About YSN: I love the supportive peer community at YSN. Everyone tries to look out for each other and that support helps make GEPN a little bit more manageable. 
Involvement: I will be one of the Acute Care SGO Representative 2018-19 and I hope to start volunteering at HAVEN this summer when we have more time!
Fun Fact: I’ve met Joe Biden three times.
