Bonnie Sommers-Olson received her BSN, MSN and her post Master’s Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
She has worked for many years between the University of Wisconsin Health Systems and the Veterans Administration Hospital and Clinics. For the VA, Bonnie has worked at the local and VISN(regional) level. In her current role, she is the manager for almost 30 Specialty Nurse Practitioners representing such Specialties as Hospitalists, Oncology, Neurosurgery, Cardiac Surgery, Urology, Endocrinology, etc. Bonnie’s other roles include membership on the Nurse Professional Standards Board and the Patient Flow Committee as well as Chairperson for the Nursing Management Council.
Bonnie Sommers-Olson also has a long Nurse Practitioner practice career, centering around Family Practice plus OB and Urgent Care. She has taught Clinical and Lecture courses in departments of Nursing and Women’s Studies. As a volunteer, Bonnie is a President of a 501(c)(3) that works to alleviate concerns over health, education and housing for areas of Africa, Haiti and inner city US locations.
