Position Title: 

Full-time Lecturer, non-tenure track, joint clinical position available in the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) – Primary Care Specialty and Graduate Entry Prespecialty in Nursing (GEPN) Program

Position Focus:

There is currently an opening for a full-time lecturer to meet teaching needs in the PNP – Primary Care Specialty and GEPN program (pediatric rotation). The 40% clinical component of this position will be to offer four 4-hour sessions per week a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Fair Haven Community Health Care Center (an FQHC) at 150 Sargent Drive, New Haven, CT. Description: 

Appointment to the rank of lecturer is appropriate only for persons whose responsibilities include regular teaching, who demonstrate excellence in their field, and who hold a masters or doctoral degree. Appointments may be part- or full-time for up to one year and are renewable. Appointments are made in accordance with the criteria and procedures described in Section IV.I of the Yale Faculty Handbook, with the exception that the length of lecturer appointments at the School of Nursing may be for less than one semester.

Criteria: 

Credentials

  • Doctoral or master’s degree and demonstration of excellence in their field, with at least two years of experience in relevant field.
  • Teaching experience preferred, but not required. For those without prior teaching experience, additional mentoring will be provided.

Position Expectations: 

Teaching
  • Ability to rigorously link practice to a body of knowledge in teaching. Demonstration of sound and creative teaching methods.
  • A commitment to being effective educator in every aspect of the work:
    • Substantive contributions to a teaching program, which could include development of new courses or improvement of existing ones.
    • Pedagogical work such as the development of instructional resources, incorporation of innovative teaching methods and strategies that naturalize health equities and eliminate structural racism.
    • Intensive engagement in the activities of the school, such that the YSN position is the faculty member’s primary career focus.
Service
  • Mentoring; student advising; participation in affairs of the School of Nursing and the teaching program, including committee service and attendance at meetings of faculty; recognition as a role model and engaged citizen of the school and the University.
  • Full-time lecturers will be expected to serve annually on at least one committee, following a one-year adjustment period for new lecturers; anti-racism training (as provided by YSN) and academic teaching training. 
  • Commitment to YSN’s Mission, Better Health for All People, and Anti-Racism action plan.

Terms and Reappointment Process:

  • Appointments to the ranks of Lecturer may be part- or full-time for one semester, for one year only, but with no presumption of reappointment and no expectation of long-term employment at Yale. Reappointment will depend on the continued need for the position, the availability of resources for the position, as well as the performance of the individual.
  • Processes for review and reappointment are made in accordance with procedures described in in the Yale Faculty Handbook Section IV.I.
  • Full time lecturers will be reviewed annually by the Specialty Director/Program Director/Program Chair and part time lecturers at the discretion of the Specialty Director/Program Director/Program Chair.
  • Maintenance of professional certification and practice as appropriate. 
  • Evidence of commitment to YSN’s Mission and Anti-Racism action plan, through engagement with anti-racism materials in agreement with the Specialty Director/Program Director/Program Chair.

Fair Haven Community Health Care

The following clinical responsibilities (40% effort) are outlined by Fair Haven Community Health Care:

Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Site Medical Director, the Pediatric APRN will ensure timely access to high quality medical care for our patients through practice transformation, value improvement and adherence to quality improvement initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Pediatric APRN will provide primary medical care in accordance with the provider’s medical specialty. Typically, duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develops a plan of care for each patient, including medical history, physical examination, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization if necessary.
  • Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and other tests in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.
  • Confers with other clinicians, patient’s families and other support staff concerning treatment and care of patients when appropriate.
  • Refers those cases which require specialist services but maintains primary care responsibility to assure continuity of care.          
  • Maintains accurate medical records within the EPIC electronic health record system and performs appropriate charting and follow up on patients.
  • Participates in medical & general staff meetings and appropriate clinical teams.
  • Participates in the Health Center’s Performance Improvement program, in other task groups as needed, and pursues continuing education opportunities to update medical knowledge and assure quality patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited APRN program and licensed as APRN in the state of Connecticut.
  • Qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
